Overview

The Challenge

The Capital Markets Authority needed an evidence-based picture of ESG adoption across Kenya’s capital markets to inform its own ESG disclosure requirements — grounding policy in the actual state of practice rather than assumption.

Our Approach

Lybra led a national assessment, reviewing the Nairobi Securities Exchange’s ESG Disclosure Manual, developing a revised manual aligned with IFRS S1 and S2, and producing ESG guidelines for listed entities, market intermediaries, and infrastructure institutions.

Regulatory Gap Analysis

Reviewed the Nairobi Securities Exchange’s existing ESG Disclosure Manual against current standards.

Revised ESG Manual

Developed a revised manual aligned with IFRS S1 and S2.

Market Guidelines

Produced ESG guidelines for listed entities, market intermediaries, and infrastructure institutions.

Benchmarking & Consultation

Informed by stakeholder consultation and international benchmarking.

This work shapes how ESG disclosure requirements are set at the market level in Kenya, not just how individual entities report.
