Overview

The Challenge

Kenya had no climate risk disclosure framework and no green finance taxonomy, which left the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and commercial banks with no shared reference point for aligning lending and reporting with global climate expectations.

Our Approach

As Country Lead and Climate Risk Expert on the Greening Financial Systems Technical Assistance Programme, an EIB initiative implemented in coordination with DAI, Patrick led the national launch of the programme and worked closely with CBK to develop the Kenya Green Finance Taxonomy and a climate risk disclosure framework aligned to IFRS S2, Kenya’s first.

Kenya Green Finance Taxonomy

Developed working closely with the Central Bank of Kenya as a shared reference point for green lending and reporting.

Climate Risk Disclosure Framework

Aligned to IFRS S2 – Kenya’s first climate risk disclosure framework.

IFRS S2 Gap Analyses

Conducted directly with Family Bank and ABC Bank to assess IFRS S2 readiness.

Board-Level Governance

Supported development of climate transition plans and Board-level governance arrangements for climate risk.

This engagement illustrates the kind of climate risk management work Patrick leads at Lybra: technically rigorous, regulator-facing, and built to leave institutions genuinely equipped to manage climate risk on their own terms.
